Former Pres. Trump and a Gag Order

Former Pres. Trump is under a gag order from a New York judge pertaining to a business fraud case he is involved with.

He seems to go off the rails in leaked video from inside the courtroom, saying things like, "This is election interference, and the democrat DAs are doing this because he (Trump) is leading in the polls."

Do you think that his comments are warranted and what do you think of the timing of all of these cases against Trump, his businesses and associates?

Let's talk about it.

  1. Hey Steven! This is a great question, especially as we are nearing the 2024 election year! Part of me does think that some of these cases against Trump and his associates were intentionally timed, however, when you think about it, many of these cases have been in the works for quite a while. Now, do I think that this might indirectly give the Democrats a leg up, possibly, but there are other viable candidates running for Republican office. In all honesty, I think Trump brought a lot of this on himself and given his history, a gag order is necessary.

  2. I don't think there should be any doubt that these charges were intentionally timed. Politicians do it all the time. Brett Kavanaugh' sexual assault allegations don't come out until his appointment, Hunter Biden wasn't an issue until his dad ran for office, etc. This is the game that politicians play when they are in danger of losing Gyge's ring.

  3. This is such an interesting topic. I am not sure whether Democrat DAs are issuing orders and lawsuits because he is leading in the polls. Even if that were true, if Trump committed crimes, then it shouldn't matter that he is leading in the polls. I remember in 2016 when Hillary Clinton was being investigated for her email server. Why didn't Trump come out and say that the investigation into Hillary was "election interference"? Politics seems much like a game, and I don't know why anyone is surprised that lawsuits and investigations happen; think of Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. Should investigations not have happened with them because they were Presidents at the time? I think all criminal behavior should be treated equally in the law, regardless of who the defendant is, or if they are leading in the polls or not. I agree it may be a bad look to have a criminal trial against a leading candidate, but if they committed a crime, they should be tried.
